Introducing the Yanez Platform

The Yanez platform is a no-code AI-powered automation and investigation platform for Financial Crime Prevention Operations (FCPO). Today we are announcing free early access to the Platform’s first module: Testing and Tuning.

FCPO teams spend a large number of resources on manual processes that with proper technology can be largely streamlined and in many cases fully automated. Aside from the obvious benefits of enabling operational growth efficiently, the largest benefit is in making the overall operation more robust while giving much-needed light and focus to meaningful and impactful risk.

We spent months interviewing compliance officers, analysts, consultants, product and business stakeholders and validating some of the key ideas behind Yanez. There was overwhelmingly positive feedback about what we wanted to build — a platform that could make a much needed impact on the effectiveness and efficacy of these operations teams.

We got busy building, and today I am very proud and excited to announce early access to the Yanez Platform’s first module: Testing and Tuning. But before I get to this module, let me tell you about the platform.

1) No-code. In our many years of developing technology for compliance and risk operations, it is very clear that FCPO teams (perhaps as many other disciplines’ operational teams) face great challenges in accessing IT resources that allow them to implement and maintain new technologies. The ability to adopt new products and technologies is fundamental to keeping up with the rapid advancement of the threat landscape. Nefarious actors adopt technology at a much faster pace than what FCPO does and therefore this capability gap threatens the integrity of our financial system. Some of us, today in Yanez’s team, helped develop and bring to market the first no-code KYC (Know-Your-Customer) capability. It allowed teams to implement market-leading identity verification technology (from multiple vendors) with a few clicks without having to depend on any IT resources. This had a meaningful impact on the market, and today many, if not all, of identity verification vendors offer a no-code facility. We are bringing to life this concept to FCPO for automation of their manual processes. Yanez Platform does not require any meaningful IT involvement to utilize the platform’s modules. We are investing in creating a plugin library that enables teams to use their existing systems, and other systems, to share data inside Yanez with the proper semantics and context to be meaningful in the automation and investigative process.

2) AI-powered. AI technologies have existed for quite some time now. Many of the products currently used by FCPO teams to achieve transaction monitoring, identity verification, and sanctions screening implement flavors of AI. Some sophisticated FCPO teams have developed home-grown machine learning (ML) models and overall capabilities, and some have started to experiment with GenAi through widely available large language models (LLM). Yanez platform utilizes a wide set of AI technologies including ML, natural language processing (NLP), and LLMs. The key to the Yanez AI success is training with domain-specific data and by incorporating reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF) techniques, allowing learning from real-world experiences from actual FCPO analysts. At the core of Yanez AI’s approach is its staunch commitment to Ethical AI, ensuring its technologies advance FCPO efforts with integrity, transparency, and societal benefit. Furthermore, Yanez is also taking care of the operations and maintenance of the AI infrastructure, further removing the need for expensive and scarce IT resources.

3) Automation. Manual processes are not only resource-intensive but tedious in nature, especially when executed several times a day, every day. Many years back robotic process automation (RPA) technologies were introduced, but FCPO teams have been very slow to adopt them. In part because the process of implementation can be lengthy and cumbersome, and it may also require significant non-easily-readily-available IT resources. Furthermore, auditing processes (internal and external) require extensive human-readable documentation that was always challenging to achieve automatically. The Yanez Platform addresses all of these challenges to achieve automation. It removes the difficulty of customization, and the need for IT resources, by incorporating human feedback through techniques like RLHF, to train and fine-tune our domain-specific AI models, enabling automation down the pipeline, and it implements GenAi to create detailed human-readable narratives to satisfy auditing requirements.

4) Investigation. The bulk of the time spent in investigation is gathering the right data, classifying it, and then summarizing it in a manner that is meaningful for analysis. Each of these functions is resource-intensive, error-prone, and overall simply difficult and can only be achieved well by senior analysts. Access to both internal and external data has specific challenges. Yanez’s approach to investigation is to apply AI technology to access and coalesce meaningful data to the specific alerts the team is investigating. Then draw and present correlations of the data gathered to enable rapid visualization of key data from these sources in the right context. More importantly, then allow for human interaction with the synthesized data along with the overall data captured to facilitate further analysis, but also to continue to learn what data is relevant and meaningful so the next analysis is more tailored to the risk appetite of the FCPO. Finally, the platform allows to sharing of these learnings across the team to improve the overall performance of the FCPO team.

5) Platform. The word platform is a favorite of business-to-business (B2B) solutions in the market, but many times it gets tossed around only for marketing purposes without a true meaning. To us, for a solution to be a true Platform it has to fulfill two core principles: a) from the builder (vendor, us) perspective: you are building core assets that can be leveraged across multiple value propositions and you can continuously build on top of these assets creating additional value, and multiplying such value over time. And b) from the consumer (client, business) perspective, it means that the value you receive from your investment perspective continues to pay off as new value propositions are introduced without having to reinvest significantly in it. Our original design of the Yanez Platform has core key technology assets that allow us to build several value propositions that feed off each other increasing their value as these core assets progress. It has client-facing modules (like the one we are introducing today) that enable clients to realize the value of these core components. Each client module has its own value proposition, and each module benefits and interacts with the other modules enhancing the overall value of the solution when used together. The value of the sum of its parts is greater than each one in particular.

That in a nutshell is The Yanez Platform. Now to our first module: Testing and Tuning.

The Testing and Tuning module focuses on helping clients reach the best possible configuration of their screening system, and easily report to external and internal auditors. This module can also unveil gaps in coverage that may be jeopardizing an organization’s compliance stance and furthermore exposing the financial ecosystem to nefarious actors.

The Yanez platform leverages authoritative data and proprietary AI technology to create synthetic data sets that find the best possible threshold to set the screening system to not miss a true match to the sanctions systems while achieving a balance between fuzzy capabilities and false positives. The easy-to-break-apart testing data provides the opportunity to discriminate systems configurations to deal better with jurisdictional nuanced data. The system can also test the robustness of the coverage by testing deep coverage across the regions that are part of a given jurisdiction.

We are excited to offer non-restricted time-limited early access to the Yanez Platform testing and tuning module in exchange for feedback. Our goal is to build a true force multiplier for the FCPO teams so they can be more productive and efficient.
